Hiking on Komodo Island is Most Exciting

TheKomodo National Park was initially established in 1980, mainly toprotect the endangered world’s largest lizard, Komodo dragon(Varanus Komodoensis), later park’s functions have been widelyextended including to protect marine species. Having been declared asa World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991 and selected as one of theNew7Wonders of Nature, Komodo National Park has gained a lot ofpopularity and attracted more visitors since. One ofthe main islands in the national park is Komodo Island and one of themost exciting activities when visiting Komodo Island is actually thehike through different landscapes: mangrove forest along the coast, savannah vegetation and cloud forest in few areas above few hundredmetres. Many rounded hills with altitudes up to 700 metrescharacterize the landscape that is among the driest places inIndonesia.Theisland offers various hiking routes, mostly starting from Loh Liangranger station, some are short such as 1.5-, 3-, and 5-kilometerdistance, some are long up to 10-kilometer distance. One beautifulhiking route will pass the gravesite of Baron Rudolf von Reding, aSwiss citizen who supposed to be attacked and killed by the lizardsin 1974. Since then, all park visitors have to be accompanied by alocal ranger.Beloware some pictures of our recent guiding trip.
